  1. IE4 Shell Tweaks 1.0

  4. Requirements:

  6. - Windows 95
  7. - MS Internet Explorer 4.0 with the Windows Desktop Update
  8.  
  9. Its possibly some of this may work on Windows 98 too.
  10.  
  11. The registry patches included in this archive allow you to tweak your start menu, and 
  12. remove some of the useless options which have plagued us since Windows 95 was released, 
  13. and also the pesky new Favorites menu which has been introduced in IE4. Hopefully a new
  14. version of Powertoys will come out soon, and include all this.
  15.  
  16. Specifically you can remove the following from your Start Menu:
  17.  
  18. - the Favorites menu;
  19. - the Documents menu;
  20. - the Find Menu;
  21. - the Run option
  22.  
  23. You can also re-enable any of these options, if you decide you want them back.

  25. USAGE

  28. Just run the relevant .reg file, and reboot. For example, if you want to remove the
  29. Documents menu, run the file 'Documents Menu OFF.reg'. Alternately, if you want your 
  30. documents menu back, run 'Documents Menu ON.reg'.

  35. These patches are ONLY for Windows 95 systems running Internet Explorer 4.0 FINAL with 
  36. the Windows Desktop Update. These patches have NOT been tested on the Platform Preview
  37. releases, and I advise against doing so.

  39. I don't know if these patches work on Windows NT 4.0 ( or Win98), perhaps someone can
  40. test them for me, and let me know.

  45. Microsoft have done a great job with the IE4 Shell Integration, and there are plenty
  46. more goodies which can be tweaked. I'll finish picking apart the new shell, and post an
  47. update with some more tweaks soon. :)
